A day at the beach sounds almost automatically relaxing, yet anyone who has returned home sunburned, dehydrated, hungry and carrying half a household in sandy bags knows otherwise. The beach can provide many of the ingredients of a restorative day: open views, fresh air, movement, water and a temporary break from screens and household routines. But those benefits are easier to enjoy when the outing is designed around comfort rather than endurance. You do not have to arrive at sunrise, stay until sunset or organise enough equipment for a small expedition. A good beach day can be short, simple and deliberately unambitious. Thinking about shade, food, timing, company and the way you want to feel afterwards can turn a popular summer activity into genuine recovery rather than another demanding item on the weekend schedule.
