Renewed interest in a film, series or adaptation often sends people back to the older story behind it. Homer’s Odyssey can look intimidating because it carries the label of a classic, comes from a distant culture and exists in many translations. Yet its central concerns remain familiar: getting home, resisting distraction, living with the consequences of choices and wondering what has changed while you were away. Reading it does not need to be an academic project. Approached slowly and with permission to be confused, the poem can become an absorbing alternative to fragmented online entertainment and a useful source of reflection about patience, identity and belonging.
